Keeping your office clean and clutter-free is critical for your business in more ways than one. You never get a second chance at a first impression, and a potential client is unlikely to make a deal with you if their first experience in your office consists of moldy food, towers of documents, and a raccoon hiding in the corner. A clean office also provides a clean mindset for positive productivity from yourself and your employees or coworkers. It can be difficult to get down to business when you’re trying to find a specific document amongst a sea of other papers, trash, and clutter. Add to that, keeping your work space sanitary will prevent the sneezing and sniffling Greg down the hall from spreading his germs to the rest of the office. It might also be beneficial to send Greg home for the day. At Augie’s Janitorial Services, we are dedicated to the cleanliness and sanitation of your offices, and although we do provide office cleaning services up to 7 times a week, there will be times that we’re not there (not that we don’t love you) and little cleaning tasks could make a big impact on the overall appearance. We’re not saying to put some gloves on, get down on the floor, and start scrubbing, leave the heavy duty stuff to us, but here a few minor things you can do while we’re not around.
Break Room
Now, we’re not pointing any fingers but in our experience we have found that the break room can go from spotless to a pigsty in a matter of minutes. It’s actually kind of impressive, in a messy way, of how bad it can get in such a short amount of time. Whether it’s an exploded gas station burrito in the microwave, an old coffee stain on the floor, or some stale cereal that crunches under the feet of anyone walking through, it is known that the break room attracts messes. We’re not saying to implement any rules, we know it is a room to relax and rest your hard working brain, and making rules would be like trying to maintain law and order in the wild west, however, minor things can make a huge difference. Be sure to throw away your trash, wipe up a spill on the counter, throw away the molded sandwich in the fridge. You’ll be surprised with how easy it can be to maintain if everyone is cognizant of their own area and waste. You’re coworkers are your family and your office is your home, so as long as everyone carries the same mindset, the pig pen will instead be a clean, relaxing area to take your much needed break.
Desk
Your desk is home base. It’s where you spend almost the entirety of your work life and you want to keep it clean and organized (maybe you don’t like it organized, who are we to tell you how you work?). There are a few items we recommend keeping by your desk to maintain a clean work space.
- Air Dusters- From Cheeto dust to fingernails, who knows what’s hiding underneath your keys? We almost guarantee that if you look in between your keys after a few days without our commercial cleaning services, you’ll see little pieces of debris and maybe a few of them wiggling… instead of wondering what’s living under your fingers as you type, use a canister of air duster to blow out all of the tiny particles and keep your keyboard clean.
- Microfiber Cloth For Your Monitor- You may think that an antibacterial wipe is perfect for wiping down your smudged up computer monitor, but you’re actually doing more harm than good. When cleaning your screen, it’s important to avoid any cleaners or wipes that contain alcohol or acetone because these actually take off the screen’s protective coating. Instead just turn off the monitor, dampen your microfiber cloth, and wipe the screen down until it looks shiny and new.
- Antibacterial Wipes- You can still keep antibacterial wipes at your desk, in fact we recommend it! Just don’t use it on your screen. But wiping your desk, armrests, or any surface around your workspace can help prevent germs from spreading and you being the person to blame for half of the office taking a sick day. You can also wipe your hands off before typing to prevent sticky keys.
- A Cup or Container- This might seem counterproductive at first, why would you put a cup on your desk? Isn’t that just more clutter. But hear us out. Having a cup or container on your desk can be used to hold all your pens, paper clips, sticky notes, really whatever small items sitting on your desk that when scattered about create clutter, but when gathered into a container gives the desk an organized appearance.
Restrooms
We’re going to reiterate, we’re not telling you to do the dirty work, that’s our job - unless the toilet water is slowly rising to the brim and you have to grab a plunger to prevent disaster- but instead, we’re just recommending small tasks to keep the bathroom sanitary. If you see a corner of paper towel resting on the floor, take three seconds to pick it up and toss it in the trash! If there’s some dried soap on the brim of the sink, grab a damp paper towel and wipe it down. I’m sure you’ve begun to gather that it really is the small things that matter when our office cleaning services aren’t around.
Floors
It’s very important to keep the walkways clean in an office. Whether it’s potential or existing clients or employees, obviously these areas are meant for walking and a dirty ground gives off the impression of a dirty office space. If you have hardwood or linoleum floors, we recommend a mop or a wet swiffer sweeper to give the floor a nice shine when needed. If you have carpeted floors, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a simple cheap vacuum just to pick up some of the debris before our services come through.
